How many times have you been on a quest to find your purpose and ended up empty handed? It feels like this never ending journey of feeling dissatisfied with life because you haven't figure out what you are meant to do.
I'm 35 years old and have been there many more times than I can count. I was always looking for that "thing", that "purpose", the fulfillment in what I would do with the rest of my life, but I could never quite narrow it down. Honestly, it got to a point where I just took some shots in the dark hoping something would stick.
Not too long ago someone asked me "what do you want to do for the rest of your life?"
and the only thing I could tell him was, "...I know the elements of what I wanted...?"
to which he asked, "what are they?"
I wanted to be creative, tell stories, entertain and motivate others.
But what in the actual f*ck does that mean?
I've countlessly searched for careers that could embody those elements and nothing spoke to me. I wanted to be an entrepreneur but of what? I was trying so hard to find this purpose, find this fulfillment, that it never occurred me that I already had my gifts and purpose within me.
I stopped finding my purpose because I found my peace.
Once I found my peace, the noise and energy that was holding me back began to dissipate and now I could feel my purpose. I didn't need to find it because it was within me this whole time, but I allowed the chaos of the world, social pressures, and inner child trauma to take over my body. I couldn't see or hear beyond today because I wasn't able to find moments of stillness throughout the day.
Stop trying to find your purpose and find your peace. Trust me, it is one of the most valuable things in life that nobody can take away from you. And when you have it, you will get (almost) all of the answers to your questions and you'll know exactly what direction to walk in.
